Full Moon

Moon Light Your Way

“I hope you find true love,”

You told me on the street,

An odd thing to say to someone,

When it’s the first time you two meet.

Tattoos on every inch of you,

Rotted gaps between your teeth,

When I saw you, I’ll admit,

I made assumptions of who you’d be.

You smiled and started chatting,

But there was a sadness in your eyes,

That metal look and fierce demeanour,

Naught but a hoaxing disguise.

Beneath the studs and liners

I saw a softer side,

A longing in your soul.

I don’t know what you saw in mine.

The words you said still haunt me,

“Miss you’re a walking work of art,

You’re everything I wish I could be.”

And that? That broke my heart,

Cause I don’t think you understand

How very beautiful you are,

To compliment a stranger,

Even with your animosities and scars.

I know not what life has done to you,

Nor yet to where you go,

But my prayers are with you always,

Down every dark steep road.

I looked up to the moon,

And in its lighting slowed,

To ask God for a favour,

To guide you, take you home.
